Panam was born from a shared dream, rooted in memory, flavor, and connection.

With Sri Lankan roots and Swiss hearts, we grew up between cultures – always carrying the aroma of home-cooked rice and curry with us. One day, walking past a quiet corner in Basel, a wave of nostalgia hit.

The space felt familiar: warm, soulful, and honest. Something clicked. In the window, I saw a cookbook – Rambutan, written by my cousin, who had opened a Sri Lankan restaurant in London. It wasn’t just a coincidence.

It felt like a sign. A spontaneous conversation with the person behind the counter revealed something unexpected: we both had the same dream – to create a place where food tells stories, connects people, and honours where we come from.

Panamaram, a Tamil word meaning connectedness and rootedness, became our compass. From that spark, Panam – Roti & Soul Food was born: a tribute to our heritage, the spirit of diaspora, and all those searching for something real and nourishing. Panam is more than just a restaurant.

It’s a space of soul, warmth, and belonging – from Jaffna to Basel, one plate at a time.
